Embankment and cut soil
The land condition map has been maintained since the 1955's as basic data necessary for planning disaster prevention measures, land use, regional development, etc. With this update, the area of "high embankment" (embankment height of 2 meters or more), which is said to easily cause ground collapse, has increased to about 90 square kilometers (about 1.4 times the inside of the Yamanote Line) in total for the two prefectures. In particular, it seems that the number of new residential areas such as Hachioji city, Machida city, Tama city in Tokyo and Yokohama City, Kawasaki City in Kanagawa prefecture has doubled from before the renewal. The cut soil is structurally sturdy, but the embankment must be thoroughly investigated for risks such as liquefaction caused by an earthquake.
