What is the purpose of the city planning law?

■都市計画法(toshi-keikaku-ho) ☞ city planning law
■国土交通省(kokudo-kotsu-sho) ☞ ministry of land, infrastructure, transport and tourism (MLIT)
・The city planning law, which was created by MLIT, exists to regulate urban development.
■都市計画区域(toshi-keikaku-kuiki) ☞ city planning area
■都市計画区域外(toshi-keikaku-kuiki-gai) ☞ non city planning area
・The law divides all Japan into mainly two parts. City planning area, which is regulated by city planning law and non-city planning area, which is not regulated by this law.
■市街化区域(shigaika-kuiki) ☞ urbanization promotion areas
■市街化調整区域(shigaika-chosei-kuiki) ☞ urbanization restricted areas
・City planning area is mainly divided into urbanization promotion areas, where development is promoted and urbanization restricted areas, where development is restricted. Urbanization restricted areas consist primarily of agriculture, forestry and fishery projects and are not generally allowed to build residential, office and retail properties.

◇外装工事(gaiso-koji) ☞ exterior finish
◇改築(kai-chiku) ☞ reconstruction
